SOUND SCULPTURE INC

Sound is a building material.
It shapes how experiences are perceived, felt, and remembered.
Sound Sculpture, Inc. (SSI) is an independent sound studio and workshop dedicated to themed, location-based experiences. Since 1996, we have explored sound’s role as a foundational creative material, crafting bespoke sounds that shape how environments are perceived and understood. Each day, tens of thousands of people encounter our work.

Our work lives in the sonic space alongside music and dialogue: sound effects, Foley, environmental layers, sonic textures, and immersive soundscapes. We do not regard these elements as decorative additions, but as foundational design material. These sounds shape how space, motion, story, and visual detail are interpreted, from early creative development through the final guest experience.

The handcrafted nature of our work is not only an aesthetic choice — it is a practical one. It allows us to work with a level of specificity and responsiveness that supports long-form development, iteration, and world building.

For a deeper look at how this thinking shows up in our practice, see related SSI-specific articles and writings.

Selected Notes from Colleagues and Collaborators:

“Thanks to you, this very special new attraction has my favorite soundscape of any other attraction I’ve ever had the pleasure to help create in almost 42 years! Your work was pure perfection and I can’t wait for you both to come experience what you’ve created. Truly, it’s a Herrington masterpiece!!!
You two are so very talented and so great at what you do. Now I can’t help but smile from ear to ear every time I ride through.”
Kevin Rafferty, Creative Director & Show Writer

“Making sounds by hand is a dying art form that Ben and Roy are single-handedly keeping alive. They are proving that crafting the sounds organically still has a place in today’s Hollywood.”
Christopher Willis, Emmy Award-winning Composer

“These guys are magicians, evoking so much emotion just through sound!”
Yong D. Lee, Executive Producer & Architect

“Highly recommend SSI — they’re excellent at bringing a multilayered sense of place. Audio set-building!”
Sara Thacher, Executive Creative Director

“Ben and Roy, your approach to sound design is innovative and unparalleled. So glad I got to work with you on this and very pleased with how this land turned out.”
Cory Brown, Audio Media Designer

“Just wanted to tell you how fantastic you two are at what you do. Just finished EP 5 now. The amount of creative choices you make is astounding, and the sounds of the show are just delightful to listen to.”

The SSI Workspace

The SSI Studio and Workshop space reflects a lineage of classic sound-effects artistry alongside contemporary sound design tools and practices.

The space is part workshop, part sound studio, part laboratory, part museum of sonic curiosities. Here, classic sound effects artistry, experimental instrument construction, and performance-based sound design are paired with modern sound design tools and workflows. Our sounds are built, performed, shaped, and adapted in response to the needs of each project.
